REGISTRATION

Use the registration form to submit new projects to the ZMB. This gives us the information needed to organize training, support, and services, after which a team member will contact you.

If you are already registered and want to begin or request a new project, or if you have questions, please contact us by email at info@zmb.uzh.ch.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Publications containing results generated with resources from the Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis must include an acknowledgment.

1. Acknowledge the facility in any publication that uses its instruments or staff support, and inform the facility once the work is published at info@zmb.uzh.ch.

2. Acknowledge specific grants that funded the instruments if your data were acquired during the grant’s active period; facility staff can advise on the correct grant codes.

3. Consider co-authorship when facility staff contribute beyond routine support—for example, providing scientific input, experimental design, advanced acquisition, analysis, or writing. Discuss authorship and acknowledgments with facility staff before manuscript submission.

Example acknowledgments:

Imaging was performed with equipment maintained by the Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis, University of Zurich.

Imaging was performed with support from the Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis, University of Zurich.

We acknowledge the assistance and support of the Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis, University of Zurich, for scanning electron microscopy experiments.

BIOSAFETY

All work involving biosafety class 2 organisms on our systems must follow GLP and the biosafety regulations of the Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis, the University of Zurich, and the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health (BAG).

Principal investigators and lab biosafety officers are responsible for ensuring that all researchers comply with these rules in the microscopy rooms.

The class 2 cell culture lab may be used to culture and prepare cells for experiments performed on any system at the Center.

For questions or concerns, please contact the biosafety officer, Claudia Dumrese before starting your work. You can find more information here.

Radiosafety

Only trained and registered users may work with uranyl acetate, and it must be handled exclusively in the designated radioactive workspace using dedicated tools. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals may not work with UA.

Use UA safely and minimally: only ZMB-provided aliquots may be used, excess solution must be blotted and disposed of as radioactive waste, and all contaminated materials go into the radioactive solid waste container.

Record and report: document your name, date, and amount of UA used, and immediately report any contamination or accidents to ZMB staff and to the radiosafety officer Johannes Riemann. More information here.

FEES

Our fees follow SNF and UZH rules for technology platforms and are regularly audited. They are calculated based on direct project-related costs (as defined by the SNF), including a portion of maintenance. As a result, only the direct-cost component is chargeable to the SNF, while most other funding agencies allow full cost coverage.

Fees and limits are updated annually according to changes in direct costs. For detailed cost information or calculation methods, please contact Urs Ziegler. More information here.

All work performed at the Center for Microscopy and Image Analysis must confer to our guidelines. Learn hwo things work here guidelines.
